What exactly is a synastry reading

Synastry is the overlay of two natal charts to analyze the dynamic between two people. It does not calculate a compatibility percentage or give a yes or no answer: it reveals patterns of attraction, structural friction points, and shared karma themes. The astrologer reads the aspects formed between the planets of one chart and those of the other, and how each person activates the inner world of the other.

What information you need to request a synastry reading

You need the birth data of both people: date, time, and place. Time is especially important because it determines the Ascendant and houses. If you do not know your partner exact birth time, the analysis can be done with an approximate time or noon as a reference, though it loses precision in house overlays. With both people data, the astrologer generates both charts and overlays them for analysis.

Synastry vs sun sign compatibility: the real difference

Sun sign compatibility compares only each person Sun and represents less than 10% of what determines a couple real dynamic. Synastry analyzes all ten planets of each chart in relation to the other. Two people with incompatible sun signs can have a powerful synastry if, for example, one Moon sits on the other Venus, or lunar nodes activate crossed Ascendants. Synastry is the complete analysis; the sun sign is just a surface layer.

What synastry does not tell you and why that matters

Synastry does not predict whether a relationship will last or whether you should stay with someone. It shows the structural map of the dynamic: where there is intense attraction, where there is friction, which themes repeat. You make the decisions. Difficult aspects are not negative by definition: squares and oppositions create tension, but also generate movement and transformation. A synastry with many trines may indicate comfort but little spark.
