What is synastry and what does it analyze
Synastry is the technique that overlays two individual natal charts and examines the angles (aspects) formed by one person's planets with the other person's planets. It shows how each individual affects the other: what A's Sun activates in B's chart, where B's Venus falls in A's houses. It focuses on the interaction between two real people and their individual energies.
What is the composite chart and how is it calculated
The composite chart is calculated by taking the mathematical midpoint between the corresponding planets of the two natal charts. The result is a new chart that belongs to neither person, but to the relationship as its own entity. Where synastry shows how they relate, the composite chart shows what the relationship is in itself.
Technical and conceptual differences between both techniques
Synastry is dynamic: it describes the interplay of forces between two individuals. It shows attraction, tension, friction points and complementarity.
