Synastry is the astrological technique that overlays two natal charts to analyze the dynamic between two people. Why comparing sun signs is not enough for compatibility
Sun sign horoscopes only compare one of ten variables for each person. In real synastry, the astrologer analyzes where one person's Venus falls in the other's chart (attraction), where Saturn acts (structure and limits), where Mars impacts (energy and conflict). Two supposedly incompatible signs can have exceptionally harmonious synastry, and vice versa.

The key points of analysis are inter-chart aspects (angles formed by planets in one chart with planets in the other), house overlays (which house each person activates in the other's life) and shared sensitive points such as the north node and descendant. To calculate a synastry you need the complete birth data of both people: date, time and place of birth. If the birth time of one of them is unknown, the analysis is still possible but loses the precision of the houses and Ascendant. It is recommended to note this when ordering the reading.
