In palmistry, nails complete the reading of the hand. Their shape, length and texture provide information about health, character and emotional state that the main lines do not always show.
Why nails are part of the palmistry reading
Classical palmistry analyzes lines, mounts and fingers, but also observes nails as complementary indicators. In both Western and Chinese hand-reading traditions, nails provide data on vitality, nervous system and the current emotional state. They are not determining on their own, but they do add important nuances to the complete reading of the hand.
Nail shape and what it reveals about character
Long and narrow nails: associated with a sensitive, imaginative personality with a tendency toward introspection. Short and wide nails: point to a practical, direct, action-oriented character. Square nails: suggest balance between rational and emotional thinking, people who think before acting. Fan-shaped nails: related to chronic nervous tension or a highly reactive nature.
Nail color: signs of health and energy in palmistry
In traditional hand reading, the natural color of the nail offers information about energetic state. Pink or well-colored nails: good circulation and vitality. Very pale nails: possible exhaustion or energetic depletion. Bluish nails or frequent white spots: a signal that the system is under stress. These indicators are complementary to medical evaluation, not substitutes for it.
Bitten or damaged nails: what the habitual gesture reveals
Compulsively biting nails or having them constantly broken or damaged is, in palmistry, a signal of unmanaged internal tension. It does not point to a weak character, but to an accumulation of stress that the body releases unconsciously. It can also indicate difficulty setting boundaries in the immediate environment.

Fragile nails that break easily are associated in the palmistry tradition with a period of vital wear, whether physical or emotional. Nails with marked horizontal or vertical lines may signal acute stress events in the recent past: vertical lines are more common and less significant; horizontal ones, called Beau lines, can indicate periods of illness or strong impact.
What the palmist looks for in nails during a reading
An experienced palmist does not only look at the lines of the palm but considers nails as part of the total information field. The goal is not to make diagnoses but to complete the map of character and energetic state. If nails are visible in your photo, they form part of the reading. If not, it is useful to include an additional image of the hand from another angle.
